Erik was born in Örebro, Sweden in 1979. He began his musical training at the age of seven when he started singing in the local children's choir and took up piano lessons. At nine he started to study the cello at the Örebro Junior School of Music; something he would continue to do for the next ten years. In high school Erik became involved in the local musical theatre scene, and at the age of 18 he made his stage debut singing one of the lead roles in a children’s musical at the New Theatre in Örebro. After high school, Erik was offered one place at the Chalmers Institute of Technology in Gothenburg, and one at the Ljungskile Music Institute. Choosing to concentrate on music and singing would soon prove to be a success, as he a couple of years later was offered a place at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Erik graduated from the Guildhall in July 2004, but continues his studies with professor Robert Dean in London.
Erik is already an experienced singer, both in concert and on stage. In 2005 he made his official stage debut at the International Vadstena Summer Opera Festival. He has sung the tenor parts in amongst other things Mozart’s Requiem, Händel's Messiah, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Haydn's Harmony Mass, Beethoven's Mass in C major. He has appeared as Eumete in Monteverdi's Ulisse, Charonte in Orefeo by Rossi (St John's Smith Square, broadcasted on BBC Radio 3) and Nanki-Poo in The Mikado by Guilbert & Sullivan. On the contemporary music scene Erik has been involved in the first performances of several works including Reine Jönsson's opera Strändernas Svall (the International Vadstena Summer Opera Festival and Swedish radio P2), the song cycle Ricorso by Daryl Jamieson (Queen Elizabeth Hall) and most recently in Christina Athinoroda's opera Ita Vivam in a role specifically written for Erik.
